LAHORE: Pakistan secured 13th place in the Under-19 World Volleyball Championship by defeating host nation Uzbekistan in straight sets during the placement match held in Tashkent on Sunday.
The visitors delivered a commanding performance with set scores of 25-18, 25-19, and 25-18, wrapping up a respectable campaign at the global tournament.
Pakistan accumulated a total of 75 points in the match, with 35 coming from attacks, eight from blocks, six from serves, and 26 from opponent errors. Mohammad Yahya and Muhtat Ali Shah emerged as standout players, contributing 14 and 10 points, respectively.
“This is just the beginning of a new era for Pakistan volleyball,” said head coach Saeed Ahmad Khan. “Our boys played with heart and discipline. Victories against strong teams like Belgium, the USA, and Uzbekistan prove we are heading in the right direction.”
Pakistan concluded their tournament campaign with an impressive five wins out of seven matches, signaling their growing presence as a competitive force on the international volleyball stage.
Pakistan Volleyball Federation Chairman Chaudhry Mohammad Yaqoob praised the team’s performance, commending both the players and coaching staff for their strong showings against several higher-ranked opponents in the 24-nation championship.
