NEW DELHI — The 8th High-Level Meeting (HLM) between the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) took place today in the capital, marking another milestone in the two nations’ longstanding maritime partnership. According to a Ministry of Defence statement, discussions focused on boosting cooperation in marine pollution response, maritime search and rescue, maritime law enforcement, and enhancing capacity building and technical assistance.

The Sri Lankan delegation was led by Rear Admiral Y.R. Serasinghe, Director General of the SLCG, while the Indian side was headed by Director General Paramesh Sivamani of the ICG. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to work together in tackling contemporary maritime challenges, ensuring safety, security, and environmental protection in their shared waters.

The meeting highlighted the mutual resolve to strengthen operational coordination, exchange best practices, and advance regional maritime stability through sustained collaboration. The SLCG delegation is in India from August 10–14, 2025, for the HLM and other professional engagements under the 2018 Memorandum of Understanding between the two coast guards.
