The Health Ministry in Sanaa announced on Monday that Israeli airstrikes on the Yemeni capital left six people dead and 86 others injured. Authorities confirmed that seven children and three women were among the wounded, with 21 victims reported in critical condition. The strikes, carried out on Sunday, August 24, targeted civilian infrastructure across the city, intensifying the toll on residents.

Israeli strikes hit the Haziz power station at the Yemen Oil Company’s facility on Al-Sitteen Street in Sanaa, briefly disrupting services before the company confirmed stability had been restored. The Ministry of Interior later reopened roads surrounding the targeted sites.

According to Al Mayadeen’s correspondent, Yemeni air defense units engaged Israeli aircraft during the assault, ultimately forcing them to withdraw from Yemeni airspace.

Yemeni Operations in Support of Gaza

The attack comes against a backdrop of escalating regional tensions, as Yemen continues to face repeated Israeli strikes amid a crippling blockade and humanitarian crisis. In response, Yemen has enforced a naval blockade on Israeli ports, aimed at disrupting supply chains and trade routes. Military officials in Sanaa have pledged to maintain these operations until Israel lifts its siege on Gaza and halts its military offensives.

Earlier this week, Ansar Allah leader Sayyed Abdul-Malik al-Houthi vowed that Yemen’s military and naval operations would persist. He described them as direct and effective responses to Israeli aggression and underscored Yemen’s broader role in defending the Palestinian cause.

In his weekly address, al-Houthi denounced Israel’s campaign in Gaza as the “crime of the century,” citing deliberate starvation and bombardment that has left hundreds of thousands of children at risk of famine. He also cautioned against Israeli plans targeting Al-Quds and Al-Aqsa Mosque, stressing that Yemen’s actions form part of the wider resistance front across the region.
