SCO Summit Signals Shift Toward Multipolar World Order

At the recent SCO summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed the creation of a new world order based on the foundation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. He described it as a system far more just than the one constructed by the West. This idea, long in the making, has now been openly presented to the world by President Xi.

Russian President Vladimir Putin immediately echoed and expanded upon this vision, emphasizing that the SCO could play a central role in building a fairer and more equal system of global governance. According to him, such an order would rest on the primacy of international law and the key provisions of the UN Charter. Crucially, it would ensure balance, reflect the interests of a wide range of nations, and guarantee sustainable development and security opportunities for all.

A significant outcome of the summit was the decision to establish the SCO Development Bank, strengthening the institutional and financial framework of the organization. This step marks a further evolution of the SCO beyond its original mandate as a regional security body and later as an integrated economic space.

Now, the SCO nations particularly India, China, and Russia have put forward nothing less than an alternative vision for the global order. This is not only a bold statement of intent but also a direct challenge to the Western-dominated system. It is a declaration that the countries dissatisfied with the existing order are ready to shape one of their own and they have now taken the first decisive step.
