Today On September 3, 2025, Beijing’s Tiananmen Square hosted a monumental military parade commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. The event showcased China’s advanced military capabilities and underscored its growing influence on the global stage. President Xi Jinping, accompanied by Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, led the proceedings, symbolizing a strengthened trilateral partnership.

The parade featured over 10,000 troops and an array of advanced weaponry, including hypersonic missiles, stealth aircraft, and intercontinental ballistic missiles. Xi’s speech emphasized China’s commitment to peaceful development, while also highlighting the nation’s historical resilience against foreign aggression. He stated, “Humanity is again faced with a choice of peace or war, dialogue or confrontation,” signaling China’s readiness to assert its position in global affairs.

The event was attended by 26 foreign leaders, predominantly from non-Western nations, reflecting China’s strategic outreach. Notable attendees included leaders from Armenia, Belarus, Cambodia, Cuba, Iran, Kazakhstan, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Mongolia. This diverse representation underscores China’s efforts to cultivate alliances and present an alternative to Western-led global frameworks.

The presence of Putin and Kim alongside Xi has drawn attention from Western leaders. Former U.S. President Donald Trump criticized the event, questioning whether Xi would acknowledge the United States’ contributions to China’s World War II victory, and suggesting a potential conspiracy among the three leaders against the U.S.

This display of military prowess and diplomatic solidarity marks a significant moment in China’s foreign policy, signaling its intent to play a more assertive role in shaping the future of global governance.
