Gaza Death Toll Hits 65 Amid Israeli Military Offensive

At least 65 Palestinians were killed in Israeli air and ground assaults across the Gaza Strip within 24 hours, according to hospital officials cited by Al Jazeera on Sunday.

Medical sources reported that 49 of the fatalities occurred in Gaza City and northern parts of the enclave, areas that have borne the brunt of intensified Israeli operations in recent days. Many of the dead were pulled from the rubble of homes and residential buildings targeted in overnight strikes, while others died from injuries sustained during heavy shelling.

Doctors say hospitals in Gaza City are struggling to cope with the influx of casualties, with emergency rooms overwhelmed and medical staff forced to work with dwindling supplies of medicine, fuel, and equipment. The ongoing siege and blockade have severely limited humanitarian access, leaving health facilities without adequate resources to treat the wounded.

Witnesses described entire neighborhoods reduced to rubble as airstrikes continued throughout the night, with families fleeing southward in search of safety. The United Nations and humanitarian agencies have repeatedly warned that Gaza’s civilian population is facing a catastrophic situation, compounded by mass displacement, food shortages, and the collapse of basic services.

The Israeli military has said its operations are aimed at dismantling Hamas’ infrastructure and targeting armed groups launching rockets into Israel. However, Palestinian officials accuse Israel of deliberately striking civilian areas, with women and children making up a large proportion of the casualties.

The latest toll brings the overall number of Palestinians killed in Gaza since the start of the war into the tens of thousands, with international pressure mounting on Israel to halt its offensive and allow a broader humanitarian response.
