A Russian missile strike on the eastern-central city of Dnipro on Monday killed four people and injured 40 others, Ukrainian officials reported. The attack occurred as Ukraine intensified its diplomatic efforts to end the nearly four-year conflict, with President Volodymyr Zelenskiy visiting Paris on the same day, following recent talks with US officials.

Vladyslav Haivanenko, acting governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region, said on the Telegram messaging platform that 11 of the injured were in serious condition. He confirmed that search and rescue operations had concluded. The strike caused extensive damage, hitting car service stations, offices, and other businesses, and destroying 49 vehicles.

Vitalii Kovalenko, who was working in his car repair shop when the missile struck, described the chaos. “Everyone fell to the floor, then we started to figure out where the employees were. I ran upstairs and saw that one guy was fine, but he was a bit covered in shrapnel,” he said. He added that fortunately, all his employees survived. Photographs posted on Telegram showed emergency responders evacuating people on stretchers, firefighters tackling the aftermath, and a body wrapped in a black bag at the scene.

Dnipro, an industrial hub in central-eastern Ukraine, has repeatedly been targeted by Russian missiles and drones throughout the conflict. Such attacks have killed civilians, destroyed housing, damaged industrial facilities, and disrupted essential infrastructure.

As of Monday, Russia had not issued any immediate comment regarding the latest strike. Ukrainian authorities continue to call for stronger international support to protect civilians while pursuing diplomatic avenues to end the war.
