WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump delivered a firm warning against Iran during his State of the Union address, claiming that Tehran is rapidly developing ballistic missiles capable of reaching the United States.

Speaking before a joint session of Congress, Trump described Iran’s missile program as a serious threat not only to European nations but also to US military bases across the Middle East. He emphasized that Washington is closely monitoring Iranian military activities and will respond decisively to any potential threats.

“We expect a clear and unequivocal statement from Iran that it will not pursue nuclear weapons,” Trump said, stressing that preventing Iran from acquiring atomic capabilities is a top priority for American national security. He added that any attempt by Tehran to advance its nuclear program would meet with “severe consequences.”

Trump recalled that past US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities were intended to send a strong message to Tehran, warning against pursuing nuclear weapons. He described Iran as the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism, accusing the Iranian government and its allied groups of fueling instability and violence across multiple regions.

During the address, Trump also referenced his first term in office and the targeted strike against Qassem Soleimani, describing the action as necessary to protect American lives. He claimed Soleimani was responsible for the deaths of thousands of US troops and justified the strike as a defense of US interests.

Tensions between the US and Iran escalated sharply after Washington withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). The agreement had sought to limit Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for easing international sanctions. Since the withdrawal, bilateral tensions have persisted.

Iran has consistently maintained that its nuclear program is strictly peaceful. Meanwhile, US officials have expressed serious concerns over Iran’s uranium enrichment and missile development programs.
