Chile has withdrawn its military, defense, and air force attachés from its embassy in Tel Aviv, citing grave humanitarian concerns over the situation in the Gaza Strip amid Israel’s ongoing military operations.

The move, announced on Wednesday, underscores growing diplomatic strain between Santiago and Tel Aviv under the administration of President Gabriel Boric.

In a statement, the Chilean Foreign Ministry said the decision was coordinated with the Ministry of Defense and reflects the “extremely serious humanitarian crisis affecting the Palestinian population in Gaza.”

The ministry further criticized what it described as a “disproportionate use of force” by Israeli forces and accused them of impeding humanitarian access to the conflict zone.

According to the ministry’s official website, the personnel being recalled include Colonel Christian Stuardo Núñez (Defense and Air Force Attaché), Colonel Marcelo Elo Rodríguez (Military Attaché), and Captain Pedro Pérez Flores (Naval Attaché).

The Chilean government confirmed that the decision was communicated through formal diplomatic channels to Israeli authorities prior to the public announcement.

This action marks another point of divergence between President Boric’s government and Israel, following a series of diplomatic gestures and statements that have signaled Chile’s increasing unease over the humanitarian fallout from the conflict in Gaza.
