Drones Hover Over Global Sumud Flotilla Amid Reports of Explosions

The Global Sumud Flotilla, a humanitarian convoy carrying aid to the besieged Gaza Strip, reported heavy communications jamming and explosions early Wednesday morning as drones hovered overhead. The flotilla organisers said the interference intensified soon after Israel renewed its threats to intercept the Gaza-bound ships, insisting they were attempting to “breach a lawful naval blockade.”

Among those aboard the flotilla is former Pakistani senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, who released a statement on X (formerly Twitter) shortly after the reports of jamming. He said the participants remained undeterred despite the attacks: “Resolve is strong, we will not bow down, our morale is high and we will reach Gaza.”

Khan strongly condemned what he described as “Israeli drone attacks” on a peaceful, legal humanitarian convoy, calling Israel a “racist and illegitimate state” for targeting vessels carrying aid. He urged the global community to take immediate notice of what he termed “an assault on humanitarian principles.”

The former senator also appealed to Islamabad to raise the matter urgently at international forums, stressing Pakistan’s responsibility to defend humanitarian missions bound for Gaza. “The Government of Pakistan should raise this issue on international platforms. Gaza, we are coming,” he declared.

The latest confrontation highlights the escalating risks faced by global humanitarian missions attempting to break Israel’s naval blockade of Gaza. The flotilla, part of an international initiative to deliver food, medical supplies, and essential relief to Palestinians, has already faced threats and intimidation from Israeli authorities.

Observers warn that if Israel follows through on its pledge to forcibly stop the convoy, the incident could spark a wider diplomatic dispute, especially as lawmakers and activists from several countries are onboard, directly challenging Tel Aviv’s blockade policy.
