TEHRAN: The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed the martyrdom of Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri, its Navy chief, who succumbed to injuries sustained during recent US-Israeli strikes, the organization announced on Monday.
According to the IRGC, Tangsiri was critically wounded while overseeing the reinforcement of defensive positions on Iran’s coastal areas and islands amid ongoing operations against foreign forces. The statement credited the strikes with significant damage to enemy infrastructure, including the downing of a US fighter jet.
The IRGC hailed Tangsiri as a pivotal figure in Iran’s naval history, noting that his death would not halt ongoing military activities. It commended the naval forces for demonstrating “firm command and decisive management” during the recent confrontations.
The organization also recalled its historical engagements with foreign militaries, including the Iran-Iraq War, past seizures of foreign naval personnel, and clashes in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, asserting that each IRGC fighter embodies the spirit of “a Tangsiri.”
Condolences were extended to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hussein Khamenei, the Iranian people, and the country’s naval forces. The statement reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to continue its military campaign “until the complete defeat of the enemy and the liberation of al-Quds.”
The US-Israeli strikes against Iran began on February 28, resulting in the assassination of the former Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and other senior Iranian officials. In retaliation, Iranian forces have launched near-daily missile and drone attacks on Israeli-occupied territories and US military bases across the region.
