Islamabad: Pakistan marks its 79th Independence Day today with a renewed resolve to uphold the ideals of the Pakistan Movement and transform the country into a true Islamic welfare state.

The day commenced with a 31-gun salute in the federal capital and 21-gun salutes at provincial headquarters, followed by special prayers in mosques for peace, solidarity, and national prosperity.

The central flag-hoisting ceremony took place at the Pakistan Monument in Islamabad, where Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif proudly raised the national flag. This year’s celebrations carry added fervor in the wake of Pakistan’s recent triumph in the Marka-e-Haq operation against India’s unprovoked aggression.

Across the nation, public and private buildings are illuminated and adorned with national flags, buntings, and decorative lights. Citizens have hoisted flags on rooftops and vehicles, expressing their patriotic spirit.

In his Independence Day message, President Asif Ali Zardari described the occasion as a moment of “renewed pride and hope,” commending the unity and resilience of the people during the recent military victory. He noted that the success had reinforced public trust in national institutions and elevated Pakistan’s standing on the world stage.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid homage to the martyrs of independence and reiterated his government’s dedication to economic reforms and the protection of national sovereignty. He called upon the nation to embrace unity, justice, and peaceful coexistence as guiding principles for the country’s future.
