Russia launched a massive overnight assault on Ukraine using drones and missiles, killing three civilians and injuring dozens, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Saturday. The attack targeted infrastructure, civilian housing, and manufacturing facilities across multiple regions.
According to Zelenskiy’s statement on Telegram, Russia unleashed roughly 580 drones and 40 missiles during the raid. One missile armed with cluster munitions struck an apartment block in the central city of Dnipro, killing one person and injuring at least 26. In other regions, two additional deaths were reported in the northern Chernihiv and western Khmelnytskyi areas.
Ukrainian air defenses were able to shoot down 552 drones and 31 missiles, military officials said. The attack unfolded in two waves, triggering air‑raid alerts for up to 11 hours in some areas.

The assault also prompted Poland to scramble its aircraft and bolster its readiness, particularly in regions near its border with Ukraine. Ground‑based air defense and radar systems were placed on high alert in response to spillover risks.
In light of the attack, Zelenskiy renewed his calls to Western allies for greater military support. He emphasized the need for more air defense systems and urged continued pressure on Russia through sanctions.
