HANOI – Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính on Tuesday urged South Korea’s Samsung Group to further expand investment in Việt Nam, particularly in high technology, research and development (R&D), semiconductors, and digital transformation. Meeting Samsung Electronics’ acting Device Experience Division head Roh Tae Moon, the Prime Minister highlighted the principle of “mutual benefit, harmonised risks, and shared gains,” stressing that Samsung remains a trusted partner in Việt Nam’s economic and technological progress. He called on the company to enhance technology transfer, increase localisation, train skilled Vietnamese workers, and even appoint local talent to senior management positions.
Chính also welcomed Roh’s visit as a continuation of the momentum created by Party General Secretary Tô Lâm’s recent state visit to South Korea, which reinforced strategic ties between the two nations. He noted that long-standing cultural and community bonds have strengthened Việt Nam–RoK relations, creating fertile ground for greater investment and cooperation.
For his part, Roh expressed gratitude for the warm reception and acknowledged the symbolic timing of his visit, coinciding with the 80th National Day anniversaries of both nations. He reported that Samsung’s cumulative investment in Việt Nam has reached US$23.2 billion, with its factories in Bắc Ninh and Thái Nguyên producing over 2 billion mobile phones since 2009. In the first half of 2025 alone, Samsung Vietnam posted $31.8 billion in revenue, including $28 billion in exports. The company’s latest flagship, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, manufactured in Việt Nam, has already seen strong global demand.
Roh praised the contribution of Samsung’s 90,000 Vietnamese employees and reaffirmed the group’s long-term commitment to supporting Việt Nam’s growth. He highlighted initiatives such as supplier development programs, smart factory consulting, and efforts to strengthen the country’s supporting industries. At the meeting, Prime Minister Chính also signed a commemorative plaque marking Samsung’s 2 billionth handset produced in Việt Nam, symbolizing the deepening partnership between the two sides.
