India’s young women boxers delivered an impressive performance at the U19 Asian Boxing Championships 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand, with Nisha (54kg) and Muskan (57kg) clinching gold medals, while five others secured silver on Sunday.

Out of the 10 Indian women in the competition, nine returned home with medals — 2 gold, 5 silver, and 2 bronze — cementing India’s growing stature as a rising boxing powerhouse alongside Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and China.

Nisha opened India’s gold tally in the second bout of the day, dominating the final round to beat China’s Sirui Yang with a 4:1 decision. Muskan followed with another gold, showcasing an aggressive style to edge past Kazakhstan’s Ayazhan Ermek in a close 3:2 split verdict.

Three more Indian boxers will compete in the men’s finals later in the day, while the country is already assured of 13 medals in the U22 category, with five fighters set to contest for gold on Monday.

In the women’s finals on Sunday, Vini fell short against Uzbekistan’s Sevara Mamatova in the 60kg bout, while Japan’s Arinda Akimoto defeated Nisha 4:1 in the 65kg final.

In the heavier divisions, Aarti Kumari (75kg) lost to China’s Tongtong Gu, and Kritika Wasan (80kg) narrowly missed victory despite a strong last-round effort, going down 2:3 against Kazakhstan’s Kuralay Yeginbaikyzy. In the 80+kg category, Parchi Tokas suffered the same 2:3 fate against Sobirakhon Shakhobidinova of Uzbekistan.

India has sent a 40-member squad to compete in both the U19 and U22 events at the continental championships.
