Pakistan Mediates US–Iran Talks Amid Deadlock Over Uranium Enrichment

Islamabad: Pakistan is reportedly playing an active diplomatic role in efforts to bridge differences between the United States and Iran, as tensions continue over uranium enrichment and regional security concerns.

According to sources Pakistani officials have conveyed to Washington that Iran is unlikely to accept a 20-year suspension of uranium enrichment, a key demand that has become a major sticking point in negotiations.

At the same time, Pakistan is also engaging Iranian officials, urging them to consider a temporary suspension of enrichment for a limited period of 3 to 5 years in order to create space for progress in the talks.

However, Iranian authorities have so far not shown any positive response to this proposal.Sources further claim that before the recent escalation, Iran had been willing to reduce uranium enrichment to minimal levels, and a potential agreement was reportedly close.

That process, however, collapsed amid heightened tensions and subsequent military escalation. Diplomatic observers now suggest that renewed negotiations could once again push both sides toward a compromise, under which Iran may agree to limit enrichment rather than halt it entirely.

Such an outcome, if achieved, could be presented by U.S. President Donald Trump as a diplomatic achievement.On regional security matters, Iran has reiterated that it will not tolerate any foreign interference in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy transit route, raising concerns over potential disruptions to international shipping.

Meanwhile, developments are also being reported on the Lebanon front, where a ceasefire arrangement is being discussed. Sources indicate that Israel and the Lebanese government may reach an understanding involving efforts to disarm resistance groups.

However, analysts argue that due to the Lebanese government’s limited authority and lack of strong public support, implementing such a deal would be highly challenging, though it could still offer Israel a diplomatic face-saving outcome.

Overall, the evolving diplomatic landscape suggests continued efforts by regional actors, including Pakistan, to push toward a negotiated settlement, even as major disagreements remain unresolved.
