TEHRAN: Pakistani Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir met with Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf in Tehran on Thursday morning.

Field Marshal Munir, who arrived in the Iranian capital on Wednesday, is leading a high-level political and security delegation. The delegation includes representatives from Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, key security institutions, and technical experts. The visit is primarily aimed at conveying a message from the United States and working on a framework for a possible second round of negotiations between Tehran and Washington.

Islamabad is now being considered the likely venue for these future talks, especially after the first round of discussions held in the city over the weekend failed to produce any agreement.Earlier, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei confirmed that Tehran would host the Pakistani delegation.

He noted that indirect exchanges between Iran and the United States are ongoing.“Following the talks that took place in Islamabad, and also the discussions that the Pakistani side has had with the United States, our views have been conveyed and heard,” Baghaei said. “Naturally, during this visit, the two sides are expected to discuss their viewpoints in detail.

”These diplomatic efforts come amid a two-week ceasefire between Iran and the United States, which was brokered by Pakistan. The truce followed 40 days of intense fighting that began on February 28, when the United States and Israel launched military action against Iran.

The conflict reportedly included the assassination of Iran’s top leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, along with strikes on nuclear facilities, schools, hospitals, and other civilian infrastructure. In response, Iran’s armed forces carried out large-scale retaliatory attacks under “Operation True Promise 4.”

The operation involved the launch of hundreds of ballistic and hypersonic missiles, as well as drones, targeting American military bases across West Asia and Israeli positions in occupied territories.
