Ali al-Zaidi Takes Office as Iraq’s New Prime Minister After Securing Confidence Vote

BAGHDAD: Iraq’s new Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi officially assumed office as prime minister and supreme commander of the Iraqi armed forces after securing a vote of confidence from parliament.

According to a statement issued by the Iraqi Prime Minister’s Office, the transfer of power ceremony was held in Baghdad and was attended by outgoing Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani.

In his inaugural address, Ali al-Zaidi said Iraq is a great trust and a historic responsibility, adding that parliament had expressed confidence in the new government at a sensitive stage for the country.

He stated that serious and practical measures are essential to secure a better future for both present and coming generations.

The new Iraqi prime minister thanked parliament and said the vote of confidence represents a major responsibility before God, the nation, and history.

He also expressed gratitude to political parties and the leadership of the Coordination Framework for their cooperation during the government formation process, saying the next phase should be based on genuine partnership and moving beyond differences.

Ali al-Zaidi pledged to the Iraqi people that he would confront the country’s challenges with sincerity and strong determination.

He said Iraq has long suffered from economic, service-related, and other crises despite possessing immense resources.
