More than 200 people have been killed across Iran following a series of US–Israeli strikes that Iranian officials say targeted civilian sites, including schools and a sports facility. Authorities in multiple provinces reported heavy casualties as the offensive, which began early Saturday, expanded across several regions.

In Hormozgan Province in southern Iran, the Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that 108 people were killed in a strike on Minab Elementary School for Girls in the city of Minab. An additional 90 students were injured in a separate strike on Shajareh Tayyebeh School in the same city. In Abyek, officials said one student was killed after a school was hit, while in Tehran’s Narmak district two students were wounded while returning home from school. Authorities said the injured students were in stable condition.

In Fars Province, provincial officials reported that 20 volleyball players were killed when a sports hall in the city of Lamerd was struck. Iranian emergency services have been responding across multiple provinces, with the Iranian Red Crescent Society placing the overall death toll from the offensive at more than 200 killed and 747 wounded since the attacks began.

Tehran has formally invoked Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, asserting what it describes as its legitimate right to self-defense. In a statement, Iran’s Foreign Ministry characterized the strikes as a violation of Article 2(4) of the UN Charter, which prohibits the use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state. The ministry said Iran would use “all its capabilities” to deter further aggression.

Iran has since announced retaliatory measures. According to Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, 14 US military bases across West Asia have been targeted so far. Iranian officials said the attacks were carried out in response to what they described as joint US–Israeli aggression that struck multiple sites across the country during ongoing negotiations. The council said the Iranian Armed Forces had launched a “decisive retaliatory response” and pledged to keep the public informed of further developments.

Authorities also warned that additional strikes by the United States and Israel could occur in Tehran and other cities. Citizens were advised to remain calm, avoid densely populated urban centers where possible, and follow official safety guidance. Schools and universities across affected areas have been closed until further notice, while banks remain open and government offices are operating at reduced capacity. Officials said essential supplies had been secured in advance and urged residents to avoid crowded shopping centers to reduce potential risks.
