Four Nepali nationals were among the 25 people killed in a devastating fire at a nightclub in Arpora, Goa, India, officials confirmed on Monday, a day after the tragedy. Nepal’s ambassador to India, Shankar P. Sharma, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, extending condolences to the families of the victims and wishing a speedy recovery to those injured.

Most of the deceased were Indian citizens, including nightclub staff and tourists from New Delhi. Authorities said the blaze was sparked by “electrical firecrackers,” and the fire quickly spread to wooden structures, causing most deaths from suffocation in the basement and kitchen areas. Goa’s Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that four individuals had been arrested in connection with the incident and ordered safety inspections of other nightclubs across the state.

Fires are a recurring hazard in India due to overcrowding, poor adherence to safety regulations, and weak enforcement of building standards, highlighting ongoing concerns about public safety in crowded venues.
