South Korean actor Song Joong-ki is making a heartfelt return to the romance genre with the upcoming JTBC K-drama My Youth, premiering on September 5, 2025. This marks his first romantic role in nearly a decade, since the hit series Descendants of the Sun

In My Youth, Song portrays Sun Woo-hae, a former child actor turned novelist and florist who has purposely stepped away from the spotlight. His peaceful routine is unexpectedly interrupted when his first love, Sung Jae-yeon — now a driven entertainment agency team leader — re-enters his life, triggering a wave of emotions and memories. Their reunion delves into themes of rediscovery, healing, and the enduring power of love

This revival of Song Joong-ki’s rom-com screen persona is particularly significant following a string of underperforming films including Hopeless (2023), Bogotá: City of the Lost (2024), and My Name Is Loh Kiwan (2024). He described the project as a welcome opportunity to reconnect with the romance genre, emphasizing his desire to portray a grounded character rooted in reality.

Directed by Lee Sang-yeop (known for Yumi’s Cells and Familiar Wife) and written by Park Si-hyun (Run On), My Youth promises a thoughtful blend of wit, nostalgia, and emotional depth. The series will air two episodes each Friday on JTBC at 20:50 KST, and will also be available via streaming on platforms like Viki (global) and Viu (Asia, Middle East, Africa). During a press event in Seoul, Song admitted feeling some pressure following his recent high-profile projects, but also noted the excitement of returning to a genre that has always resonated with him
