Amid the sound of Israeli drones hovering overhead, Lebanese Member of Parliament Hussein Hajj Hassan delivered a strongly worded statement highlighting the human toll of recent violence in Beirut.

Speaking during the tense atmosphere, he revealed that in the Al-Sallam neighborhood of Beirut, 81 civilians were killed while 71 others were injured. He emphasized that the victims included both men and women, describing the incident as a grave tragedy for the country.

Hajj Hassan also launched sharp criticism at the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its head, Youssef Raji, over recent statements regarding Lebanon’s foreign policy direction.Referring to remarks suggesting that Lebanon had distanced itself from Iran, he said sarcastically, “Congratulations—Lebanon has now begun moving along Israel’s path.”

He questioned the logic behind what he described as a contradictory stance, asking whether the government intended to pursue peace with Israel while fostering hostility toward Iran. The remarks come at a time of heightened tensions in the region, with continued aerial activity and growing concerns over Lebanon’s internal and external policy direction.

Observers note that the combination of civilian casualties and political divisions is further deepening uncertainty in the country’s already fragile situation.
