WASHINGTON/ISLAMABAD: US President Donald Trump has announced an extension of the ceasefire with Iran at the request of Pakistan, saying the move aims to give Tehran more time to present a “unified proposal” to end the conflict.

The decision was made following diplomatic appeals from Pakistan’s leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and senior military officials, who urged Washington to allow additional time for negotiations under Islamabad’s mediation efforts.

Trump said the ceasefire extension would remain in place until Iran submits a consolidated proposal and ongoing discussions are concluded, stressing that the US military would remain on alert during this period.

The announcement came just before the expiry of the original two-week truce, which had been established after Pakistan facilitated early-stage talks between the United States and Iran to reduce escalating tensions.

According to the US administration, the pause in military action is intended to support diplomatic efforts while maintaining pressure on Tehran to return to negotiations with clear terms acceptable to all parties.

Pakistan continues to play a key mediating role in the crisis, hosting dialogue efforts and pushing both sides toward a negotiated settlement to prevent further escalation in the region.
